German Shepherds
Originally bred as a herding dog, the first German Shepherd Dog Society (Verein für Deutsche Schäferhunde) was founded in 1899 by Max von Stephanitz, and they are a breed renowned for their athleticism, trainability and intelligence. Unfortunately they also have a bad reputation as an overly aggressive dog. Actually the first dog that ever did real damage to me was a german shepherd! It happened when I was a 5 year old when I had unknowingly picked up his toy and was rewarded with an attempt at swallowing my head! However, when they are well-trained they are an incredible dog.
